p.s. And i use Nero to burn by dragging the finished vobs to the Video _TS folder

if the conversion was done properly and you get a DVD with subs.... then you should be able to turn the subs on and off with a button on the remote! Subtitles are just a channel on a DVD that can be turned on and off with the player's remote button...... sometimes different players call it menu or menu option on the remote... by pressing it can turn off the subtitle channel on the DVD. good luck.

I only wish i could simply turn off the subs with the remote :)...however i can not :(

The method i used to put the subs onto the conversion was to :-

1.Put the subs with the Avi file in the same folder.
2.Use WinAvi 7.1.to convert the Avi into a DVD.
3.Burn the finished conversion using Nero by dragging and dropping all the files into the Video _TS folder in the DVD Video option.

I was told how to do that by another board..however when i asked how i can make it that the subs are turned off i was pointed to http://anonym.to/?http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm
    with this comment
and that is simply too much for a novice like myself to understand and follow with out help.

So is there anyone here who could help me put subs on that can be turned off/on with an Avi conerted to DVD file ?

Help would be appreciated as my wife is loseing her hearing and im having to rely on subs more and more.

    Mnay thx

If you have VOBSUB infix, you can choose it and the avi files can convert directly. And subtitles can be concerted to dvd folder automatically. You can have a try.

yes i have Vobsub installed and use the method i have described in my previous post

If you are suggesting a different method then please explain more fully as what you have posted seems to me to be no different than i have said and tryed in my above posts?

By doing it the way i have done i get subs...but they are hardcoded in and [bold]can not[/bold] be turned off by the remote

I know that you want to cancle the subs,am i right? Sorry for my careless.
But when you convert the dvd,the subs will turn into attaching. It be inside the dvd.So you cann't shut off it with the software.
But maybe you can do that with your DVDplayer. There maybe some options.

Yep i want [bold]to be able to turn off the subs[/bold],and the dvd controller can not

I wanted some kind soul to take me through how to convert and [bold]be able[/bold] to turn off the subs as apparently its a lot more complicated than just hard coding the subs in
