hi iam having problems getting an old IBM Aptiva loaded up, when we enter the password at theusername screen i get the following error :- Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module.explorer.EXE AT013F"00401f31.

the probelm only started when my brother was downloading using shareaza and the system crashed, so he turned it off and when he tried to turn it on we keep getting the above error, i was thinking maybe a virus or sumit or windows has corrupted any advise would be great thanks

you got a virus in there, try to run system restore, i dont remember if 98 had this feature, if it does, just hit f8 as the machine is booting and boot into safe mode, run system resore from safe mode, make sure to choose a restore point before the issue started happening if not, then is time to dig a hole and berry that pc. it has serve you well but is time to let it rest in piece lol. Good luck.

Nah... Win98 didn't have System Restore. That feature (cough cough) didn't start until WinME.

Boot to Safe Mode (F8), go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall the last program you tried to install. Reboot.

Next, download a program called RegSeeker. Extract to the computer in a folder and run the program. Choose "Clean the registry". This too can be done in Safe Mode if you need it to.

Have a Win98 CD handy... because unlike newer OSes, Win98 was subject to having it's system files overwritten by programs. If this was the case, Shareaza replaced critical system files, and Explorer is now unstable.
