Hi , I have a really old compaq presario which is currently running windows 98se quite happily with mozilla firefox and thunderbird, avg combined firewall quite fast with a dial up connection of 49.333 approx I decided to try and upgrade the old soldier tried a quick instal of xp straight over the 98se it ran ok, i decided i wanted a clean install, I firstly backed up all my system using ghost 2003 that done I wiped and formatted my c drive (8.0gb) making sure i also had a ghost image stored safely on drive d (6gb) this done i downloaded from ms the appropriate files i needed for an install to set up xp as my compaq 5150 appears not to allow changing the boot up order necessary to load setup from the cd rom, stupidly I didnt take into account the cd roms version , and cant seem to find it anywhere , how do i make sure i obtain the correct version number so that i can download the correct set of 6 floppy discs , i discovered my instal was failing because id downloaded the wrong version of floppys i got various messages telling me a line was missing or a floppy sys was corrupt , so i gave up and decided to ask which was the best way to go , also tried compaq homepages but they neede all sorts of numbers serial numbers half of which are illegible now can anyone help me get around this format /instal problem thanks
