Hi All, Ok here is the story soo far. At work the manager has been setup with a limited account and she can not install new software she wants and so on. She got me to have a look at it and i tried to go through from safe mode and even that had a password alocated to it. We need to be able to change her access. We dont have the password and the I.T guy that has created the admin account does not remember the password and has said he will send a CD that will crack it and reset the password. But he is not reliable and has not sent anything. Is there anywhere on the net or any other things i can do to reset the password for my boss. The other thing i thought of but am not 100% sure about is to do a repair install on this problem. Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thanxs in advanced.
Simple method would be to download hiren's bootCD and use it's password managers to either change or delete the password.
All password crackers that i know of will only work with an administrator account and not an user account. The only way to reset or eliminate this problem with out reinstalling windows is to use the reset password disks that you probably don't have. The fastest and most effective way is to take the hard drive out and put it in another computer and copy all files that you need and reload windows. Remember you can change security settings to files that are coppied from a different computer.
Oh, and if anyone has a password cracker that works under a user account let me know because i want it.
I have a linux boot floppy that lists all users on the windows box and asks me which one I would like to reset. I have used it several times, and it works like a charm. Dont remember where I got it though. Its been a while. ~Rich
Hi all, I managed to fix the problem for my boss. thanxs to everyone that helped. @21Q check out this webpage to download it from http://maxt.dk/archives/2006/08/01/hirens-bootcd-83/ Good luck
nice, but, I need to figure out the login and pass without changing it. I know that'll be hard, and I can't install any software to do it.
The password is encrypted in the registry...and is not viewable by any means I am aware of. For those of you trying to remove Admin passwords on computers that do not belong to you, I'll add that you risk some serious issues best left avoided.
passwords can only be viewed after the encryption is cracked by password crackers. This is also very legal. People use it in companys to make sure people are using good passwords and to ensure the security of the company. To use these programs you must have administrator rights. The password cracking can take any where from seconds to 30 days depending on the length, characters used, and if capitols are used.
Just for anyone who is wondering there is a option within windows to create a cd that will allow one to reset/change/"erase" the password on boot. If anyone wants more info I'll post directions.
@21Q I posted that in case anyone here views this as a chance to do harm. Using password crackers at a school or business could land them in serious trouble.
@ Morph : true, you can't view those passwords directly, but there's always l0phtCrack or LCP to handle that... @PeaInAPod : Why bother ? Hiren's BootCD can do that, has 3 different tools for it even, and it's an easy, free download.
