my friend told me about a windows all in one that installs windows 95 - current on your computer and when you start up windows you can select which one to use. I have a legal version of windows that i keep on having to reinstall over and over again due to problems with my computer the reason i want to instal this is if i have a problem with xp i can use win me or 98 to fix the problem ect. I have had to install windows 6 times in the last two months and im getting sick of it and microsoft will think im leacking my version of windows after a while because i keep on having to register the same cd key for windows xp. please can someone help me as i would much apriciiate this thanks, Glitchzoo
Sorry, it is not possible to use Windows 98 or ME to correct XP. They have a diferent FAT system and XP has NTFS. It is recommend to make XP repair insted of a new installation. The new installation do not always solve all problems e.g. those not connectid with software.
well im getting sick of windows because it keeps on crashing ect. the old install of windows is already activated but when i log on it says you must activate windows before you can log on so i click yes, then it takes me to the activation program which says windows is already acitvated clic ok to exit. so when i click ok it just logs me back out. so now im playing with the idea of installing liunx, whats the best liunx i should use (if you know) aparently with wine liunx can run exes.
You can take contact to Microsoft and explain the problem of activating XP. Good Lixux programs are etc. Ubuntu and Koppix.
As I see it, it is very possible, but I am not a Linux specialist. Wine in designed for Windows, OX, Linux etc. You should ask details from experts and from Internet.
you mention installing Windows Xp Again. What you are actually doing is re-writing the system files. try this: Back up all the data you want to keep and format your hard disk and then reinstall windows.
yeah thats what i doo, iv got a brand new motherboard along with a 260 gb hardrive i was using shortly before that and my computer can see the 260 gb hardrive but windows comes up with an error message and i cant install windows on it so how could i format the thing considering nothink but the motherboard can see it? o and i know raid drivers would help but this motherboard is one thats suppose to not need raid drivers ect its ment to automatically see the hardrives.
Sorry, but I am on not sure what is/are your problems. You have a new motherboard and a new 260 G harddrive. Then you have difficulties to install Windows XP on the harddrive, right? Is the HDD formated or not? The HDD should have first an active directory and then it is possible to put XP there. Windows installing program will make it and format it before installing XP. Motherboard has nothing to do with that installation. What motherboard is there?
yes i did and i recently bourght the hardrive a week before installing my new mother board and i formatted and installed windows but i installed windows on the hardrive using the old motherboard. the strange thing my old motherboard couldnt read my 160gb ata hardrive anymore and i thorght it had corrupted itself and on my new motherboard it started working again so at the moment my computers here there and everywhere
Ah so, you installed Windows when there was the old moteherboard. Yes, no wonder, a new morherboard usually needs new Windows install with that same motherboard. It can work but all kind of errors are otherwise expekted.
You have Windows XP bootable installing disk. When komputer is booted the installing disk needs no other contacts, except motherboards BIOS (the new one!) and a running HDD. Later it will notice all devices and install drivers to part of them.
but i tried to format the hardrive i dissconnected all the othe hardrives and the windows installation said you need a hardrive to install windows
So you have only the right harddrive connected. Then you set Windows installation disk in, booth the computer and... Tell exactly what happend and what you do. When you get that message? http://www.theeldergeek.com/clean_installation_of_windows_xp.htm
