    COMPUTER MODEL: HP PAVILLION 753n

I am above average in computer experience, but do not know everything (by far). I have done linux and windows OS installations on at least 100+ computers, and with much help from Google, I'm very good at troubleshooting issues that arise.

I was at a friend's house tonight trying to wipe and install a new OS. His current version of windows (Windows Home), works fine (albeit a few virii I had to get rid of, but that's another story). However, when we tried to boot into his BIOS, all I get is a black screen.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I've tried. I've tried the ram sticks individually, resetting the CMOS, updating the BIOS via HP.COM, and unplugging the cd drives, the floppy drive, and the HD. All to no avail.

Does anyone know what could cause the BIOS to not boot? I've had issues on other computers with the BIOS not booting, but never when Windows functions correctly. I'm stumped... any suggestions?

Sounds like a bad mainboard. HP usualy leaves the bios to boot from USB & DVD before booting to the HDD. You could try booting to each...if one works, then you can get around not being able to get into the bios.
