    Hi peeps.
Got two questions relating to windows not detecting hard drives.
The first is on a xp machine. Ive just added a new 500gig hard drive to the 2nd sata channel. The device manager detected it and said it was ready for use but when i go into "my computer" the hard drive is not shown.
I can however see it in the bios...
Does anyone know why this is?

My second question is very similar but this time with vista ultimate.
My vista machine will only allow installation and boot of vista with two hard disks connected but in "my computer2 only one of the 500 gig drives is shown....

Have you formatted the drive with the NTFS file system?

It's not formatted yet, you need to create a partition on it using disk management.

sam is right as partition has to be done before formating. on the vista machine it is 1 hard drive partitioned into 2 with 2nd partition being the recovery section for vista.
