Something weird happened to my Internet connection this morning, i was browsing the net at around 4am and i decided to download some software from Filepedia.com, i was using FireFox at the time and it started to get really really slow at 1st i thought it's just FireFox so i tried IE and it worked but then it started to go even slower, i tried afterdawn and i could access the page but nothing was showing up apart from the background colour so then i turned off the firewall and everything was OK but as soon as i started the firewall the browser was being slow again so i again turned the firewall off and it was fine so i uninstalled it tried to access the Internet and i was getting "Page Can Not be Displayed" for anything i tied so i restarted my PC reconnected to the Internet and i was still getting the same message after all that i delete my Internet connection and reinstalled it but nothing was happening still that same stupid message, it was about 5:30am so i said scew it am off to bed. After i got up i stuck the PC on and tried the Internet still not working so i reinstalled the Internet connection yet again but i still had no joy eventually i reinstalled the Firewall just in case it had left some stupid setting blocking all access to the net but still no good, another thing i tried was Bitcomet but i kept getting "Could Not Find Listening Port" or something along those lines. After all that i had to reinstall Windows over Windows just to get access to the blooming Net and am still puzzled as to what the problem actually was, anybody got any ideas so i can avoid this happening again? I do it has nothing to do with the ISP or the hardware because the icon that says your connected to the net was working just could not view any pages.
First off, sorry a fellow member had to go thru hell. WELCOME BACK. Listen through all of your troubleshooting, I never saw that you assumed it be browser hi-jackers, trojans, ad-aware or any causes of that nature. I've had that issue before and it was adaware. I was caught slippin' not doing my routine scans for a while and bombarded with about five files taking over my connection. Of course I'm not sure it was your problem but for me, since then, spyware is always the first to get interrogated if my internet connection loses it's umph!!
Thanks for the replay uniique1 Ya know i never even tried scanning for spyware or trojans however i did think about it for a split second but in the end i never done it(i don't know why a bit stupid now i think). I automatically thought it had to be my firewall, when i turned it off everything was good but as soon as i uninstalled it everything went to pot, I've had problems with my FW blocking access to the web but a restart fixed that most of the time. This is not the 1st time it's happened to me in fact about 2 months ago it did the exact same thing but a full format fixed that, however this time i had to install windows over windows because i have a folder on my hdd that 67gb and i have no blanks till Friday
Nah i should be ok I have the usual ones like ad-ware, spybot and a few more, I've since upgraded both my firewall & my virus scan so i should be ok as long as i remember to update (and scan)
Cool. Yeah, I usually scan at a minimum once a week and more if I've had a lot of internet access (i.e. downloads, online play, etc...) Never-the-less, glad you got your issue resolved.
