Hey i've tried googling the subject but i don't really understand wat all these people are on about (as far as wat parts of the system their talking about and brands and all that).so the problem i'm faced with is that whenever i'm just working on the computer or something the computer completely just switches off. Now i've expirienced times when the computer has showed the BSOD as most people probably have but i get nothing there isn't even a reboot. Any suggestions? there was alot of talk on the site that i visited about temperature is it possible that my computer is getting overheated? i went into my BIOS and found nothing of temperature except for something that said something about maximum temperature i think and that was at 70*C so i kinda thought would the computer heat up that quickly when i'm simply running a Spy-Bot Search and Destroy program? becuase i've run to other virus checks (CA Anti-virus and AVG (free)) and they didn't turn off the computer but found nothing. the things i've tried so far had been... * replacing the power cable with another one i had lying around * leaving the case open for a while and airing it out (some person on another site suggested using a household fan to cool it down and get the dust out could i do this or would i screw up the system? * inspecting the inside of the case for anything abnormal (cracked wires and so on) so any input in this predicament would be appreciated Thanks in Advance Broc455
Download Hijackthis http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html, run a scan, post the log report here. Your computer may be infected. In BIOS, what were the fan speeds? What brand and model of computer. WinXP? What Internet Security suite do you use?
Heat problem possible. Sounds more like a device failure. This is what I would do: Strip the computer to bare essentials. ie: MB; RAM; Processor(fan, heat sink); Harddrive; Power Supply IF every stays working fine the it's something that isnt plugged in thats causing it. I had a bad CD-RW do some whacked things to my system Even test your RAM one stick at a time. [(if onboard video) best test single modules in the slot closest to processor) Plug things in one at a time and use the computer for a while before plugging in another device. Testing Power Supply is hassle...best to borrow one...i'd say get a PSU tester for a few bucks but that wont show PSU overheat. The more info we get the more help you'll get...good luck
ok thanks guys for your help but today i went into power save setting and switched the option that shows what my power button does to "do nothing" and ran another spybot check andit worked without shutting down. Now after this i realised that my internet was turned of so i don't no whether it stopped because of wat i did or because my internet was turned off and i've installed that software you told me to install quikdraw here the log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 11:55:22 AM, on 20/12/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxCfg.exe C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxFwHlp.exe C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxPol.exe C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\HIPSEngine\UmxAgent.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\CA Anti-Virus\ISafe.exe C:\Program Files\CA\SharedComponents\PPRT\bin\ITMRTSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\CA Anti-Virus\VetMsg.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\vsnpstd3.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\cctray\cctray.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\CA Anti-Spam\QSP-5.1.18.0\QOELoader.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\CA Anti-Virus\CAVRID.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\CA Personal Firewall\capfasem.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\lib\NMBgMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\CA Personal Firewall\capfsem.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware\CAPPActiveProtection.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\ccprovsp.exe C:\Program Files\CA\eTrust Internet Security Suite\eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware\PPCtlPriv.exe C:\Program Files\MemoKit\memokit2.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WLLoginProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Download Everest Home Edition to find out what hardware components you have installed. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html After the download, run a hardware scan by clicking on REPORT. Don't post this report. This is just a tool to see what's inside your PC. Scroll down the report to you reach the section labeled SENSOR. You will see your CPU temperature and fan speeds here. Test Power Supply: http://ochardware.com/articles/psuvolt/psuvolt.html Beep codes: http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html Will get back to you later on the hijack log. OK, download and run COMBOFIX. Post the log report here. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=134965
