I don't want to start a war here, but I'll even take Windows over Mac, and you have no idea how hard it is for me to say that. I work with both as well as various flavors of *nix. But I agree with Auslander and will eventually be migrating everything over to Linux.

linux is by far the most stable, it just is not as popular due to the (major) lack of software for it. if you want a good computer that you can build yourself, upgrade, and make modifications to, get a pc with windows or linux. if you like buying over priced under powered computers that match your ikea furniture, buy a mac.

best description for a mac ever.

mac os is a better os than windows (in terms of stability, etc, not just eye candy), but the hardware it's tied to, well thats a different story. as djscoop mac hardware is way overpriced.

as for linux, i just really do not like linux. i find it a bastard to set up, and hunting for drivers for linux can be a real pain.

in my opinion win2000 is the most stable OS there is. the only reason why OS X is semi-decent is because it is based on UNIX code. it still amazes me how people who use macs think they are so much better than PCs. but in so many ways they are insufficient and inferior.

i agree with you that 2000 is more stable then mac or xp pro

i am still using the same installed 2000 system since 1999,moving the hard drive from mother board to mother board.computers died but not the system...started with a fsb 99.6,535 to 2000
and ghosting the hd to another hd when needed..

never have i had to do a reformat of the system.

can ye say that about xp.....?

Actually, the bigger problem is the lack of a friendly GUI - X is only a bit better than the Windows 2.0 or late-80's Mac interface. The erratic handling of file associations is also a problem. I think if a decent GUI and reasonable, reliable integration were developed, Linux could kick Windoze to the curb. My $0.02.

thast awesome ireland! I too have a server in my closet that has been running win2k pro for over four years now continuously...not a single crash, restart or shutdown.

XP is so slow and bloated compared to 2000 its ridiculous. I have two system partitions and use both. Mainly 2000, but am forced to use XP from time to time because newer software such as adobe premiere pro and digidesign's pro tools only run on XP....argh!!!

lets hope vista will be better than xp
