moved to correct forum. what is the boot sequence in the bios? what is the make & model# of the motherboard or computer?

okies.. I see where the problem might be.. this is a board with ide and sata ports. so you will need to make sure the bios is set to actually run the onboard bios ide device driver rather than the sata. XP don't have sata drivers, and that's the most likely cause.. the hardware is telling windoze the drives are sata in ide mode or something so it's addressing the wrong location..

delve into the bios hdd or integrated peripherals settings and there will probably be something like the ahci mode for drives or similar.

being the motherboard sees the drive then it is a setting issue. clear the cmos so it goes back to factory defaults. what are the drives jumpered as as in master, slave or cable select?

read your motherboard manual or computer guide on how to clear the cmos. if the hd is slave the what is master?
