    Hey guys,

Well i have a problem and i find myself here again.

i am currently trying to fix my step dads pc

    Custom Build
    768mb 333 ram
    40gb hard drive
    win xp
    lan party mother board
    nvidia 128mb graphics card

    anyway....

so i reinstall and run into no problems at all -
then computer reboots and goes to the log screen (with the scrollling bar at the bottom)

first of all when the computer gets to the logo screen everything looks okay (but no green squares in the bar)

then about 1-2 seconds the colours mess up (as though the graphics card drivers arnt intalled - which they arnt)

    and still no scrolling bar.

then the computer sits there and does nothing - even though the hard drive flashes for a minute or two then stops

still the screen sits there (i have left it for around ten minutes without any change)

    ive tried restarting from
    last know config
    VGA mode
    ive also tried repairing windows
and i have tried safe mode - this boots to a black screen with horizontal multi coloured lines

i believe its a graphics card problem but as i dont have another to test it with (mines pci express)
    your views would be appriecited

    thanks

Try rebooting while rebooting press f8 several time before the windows screen loads. Select safe mode. It should windows default and let you boot. If it does, try to load the video drivers then. If not, go to "in safe mode," start, control panel, display, settings, advanced, adapter, properties, update driver, select not this time for search next, select install fro specific location (advanced) next, select don't search. I will choose the driver to install next, click have disk, browse for the driver location "your disk drive where the driver is located." When you see the driver click the inf file, it should show in the locate file box, click open. Then follow through with the install. If this does't work I'd suggest finding a display card that is plug and play xp compatable. Windows default drivers will boot to this device.
