    What are your system specs??

This is a can of worms, that you are opening. If your computer is fairly new, there may not be 7 year old W-98 drivers for some of your hard ware.

Your computer syntax is a little jumbled. Format means ERASE , as in gone forever. To Ghost an image is to in effect take a snapshot of your computer Operating system and everything else. An image of what it looks like frozen in time. When you reinstall an image [GHOST] , you replace by formatting ie erase your hard drive and the data on it and replace it with the Ghost Image XP operating sytem that you made. You in effect replace the current image , which may have gone bad , with the new backup image.

You can format/erase and start over with W-98, but you can not ghost an XP image on top of it. Doing so will erase W-98 that you installed.

So I am not sure what you want to do.....

whatever the reasons you want 98,to format the hd you need to make win 98 floppy disc startup disc.then format the drive off of the startup disc.

and if you have win xp pro you should have formatted the hd to ntfs to get better performance out of xp.but if you are definitely going back to 98 then you are gonna need it formatted to fat32.

Ghost images are in effect a complete backup of your Hard Drive. If you want to backup your HD, you do not have to ghost it. You just need to find and backup/copy all your files onto CD-Rw`s or DVD-Rw`s and then format and go to W-98. Then reinstall your programs and move your data back on to your new W-98 hard drive.
