My friends computer with xp home will not bootup, it freezes at "now starting windows xp". It will not boot up in safe mode I have tried booting from the xp disk by selecting the repair option, but it asks for the admin password and the is none, a password was never selected. Is there anyway to access system restore without it booting up. Any help will be appreciated. thanks

You might also try runing a repair with your Windows XP CD. If done properly, you will not lose any files or programs. Simply boot from your windows XP CD and press enter on the first screen. Then press F8 to agree to the terms and then press r for repair. It should take about 30 minutes to run, but *hopefully* that fixes the problem for you.

That too, but if you never selected a admin pw, just hit enter. Worked for me.
