When I login to my home pc the following error message appears
"Incorrect User Login or Password..Please try again" appears.

I have never set a password, nor have an administrator password

I've tried the f8 (safe mode) but I am being prompted for administrator password, but there isn't one
    ANY IDEAS PLEASE

    Hi there,

Did you try NOT using the password, and just leaving it blanc?
    If not try that.

Well, I hate to say this but if a box is there for you to put in a password on the welcome screen then someone put a password in there. If they did not put a password you would not be prompted for one.

Try this site. There are several LINUX based programs that can remove passwords for you. You will need a floppy drive to do this. http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm

If this doesn't work for you then the next step, which everyone hates is to put on your OS again. This can be done a couple of different ways, so I would need to know if you have important documents on your machine or if you have a backup of all of your important documents.

I hope the first way works for you. Let me know.

Just to build on what suxgun said. When ever possable keep all you data, files, docs, etc. on another partition or drive other then your os. That way if you do end up reloading the os you may loose your program installs but you won't loose your data. If possable keep the same data on two drives, that's even safer :)

Thank you all for your suggestions. I did of course try no password, and of course all sorts of deviations of password etc.

The interesting point that i haven't mentioned is that we had a babysitter round, who denys using my pc, etc etc....

I'll try the petri site, but I tried another suggestion last night on this page ....http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305
I got as far as 9. but didn't get the "installing devices..." and didnt then get the chance to press shift F10...it seemed to be working so well until that point. Maybe I missed it, maybe SP2 has closed this loophole, but it looked hopeful at the time
    cheers, S
