I have a laptop with windows xp professional. for some reason my password is not working so i am unable to log in. i use a recovery password program but it didn't work. now i can't log in into my computer even if i am a guest. i use to able too. so i was wondering can i do a clean or reinstall my computer with windows xp home edition cd.
Why not reinstall XP Pro? Because if you don't a unused XP Home license you won't be able to activate it, wereas if you reinstall XP Pro you can use the serial that came with your laptop.
is this the boot cd you use to reset your password? http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ I've used to reset my windows xp pro admin password more than once and it has worked everytime. Just use the default settings and it will get you there. If the password you are talking about is the "bios password" on a laptop, nothing will reset it except the shorting out of the bios eeprom chip. That's a complicated procedure, even if you reinstall windows, that won't fix a bios password problem.
