windows xp

    when windows xp or earlier for that matter loads up you have to wait for the icons to load on the task bar. what is it that determins the speed i think it's the ram.

    please correct me.

    a variety of things determine how long it takes to load icons. cpu speed, hd speed, ram amount, free ram or resources, hd free space & fragmentation level.

    i only have 128mb of ram do you think that's the prob

    yeah, that's part of the problem. It is recommended that you run XP with at least 256MB of ram.

    You might want to turn off some of the startup programs!
    start:
    run:
    msconfig:
    startup tab: be carefull your pc needs some of these.

    You pc doesn't need anything that you see in startup, with the exception possibly, of ctfmon.
