I dont think my version of Windows XP is genuine. If I get the real one will it wipe all my downloads etc from my documents? Is there anywhere to download windows XP free? the guy that installed my PC (just in November) must have put a non genuine copy of windows XP on it and i dont get any updates... :-(
sorry forgot to add that when i turn on my PC i get a message up saying "your copy of XP may not be genuine" then I get the option to "resolve later" or go to the MS website and get the real thing...
check this link. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5170.html even some legit versions of xp are getting that message,
Im also now getting a speech bubble every so often saying my copy ISNT genuine and i wont receiev security updates etc. Back to original question, If I do purchase the genuine version will i lose any of my files?
i have a copy of windows xp home how do i make copy of it how do i make it a bootable and how do i burn it
Two answers to the question. First, if you are satisfied with the copy you have and don't want the future updates from microsoft, then go to your windows\system32 folder and rename the two files that start with wga... to wgaspyware. Leave the rest of the filename (.dll). This will get rid of the genuine windows message. Second, if you just want to buy a new copy, get an oem version and install it from scratch. But remember, you'll want to leave the partition option alone and you'll want to keep the existing file system in place (do not choose to format the drive) This will delete your old windows and install the new one but keep all your data in the documents and settings folder intact.
