WinxP seems to give me sooo many (trouble responding) messages after surfing web pages after a bit. It especially happens when im trying to download something from the net, after a few downloads. Then, I try to close it out and it just sits there for a long annoying minute or two, before I can fire up Firefox again so I can get back to doing what I was doing. Even more annoying, is the amount of time it takes after I try to downlaod a file on the net. It'll sit there for an annoying 20 seconds before my 'downloads' window pops up and my file starts downloading. What's the deal here? Win98 was instantaneous when it came to downloading a file. Any fixes for this???
Have you tried scanning for spyware/viruses?? Also if you have not defragged in a bit give that a try. And check for updates from M$.
I used Spy Sweeper the other day and there was tons of Spyware, but im assuming it was erased by Spy Sweeper. I havent Defragged in a while though.
I would try defragmenting could also be cause my corrupt windows files. Also what specs of your computer you are running Xp with ? Sounds mainly like spyware/adware like P4 said . Im not very sure about spy sweeper i always used adaware Se, and spy bot search and destroy .. If u dont have a virus scanner download AVG works great and its free...
@wangho75, What version is your FireFox? Try to update to the latest 1.0.7.0 or have you tried speeding up your FireFox, especially if you have DSL. Go to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/177587 there are some good tips here. Win XP has nothing to do with slow downloading, this sounds more like your system is infected with craps, spyware, viruses/trojans, etc. You'll need the following programs to clean out all sort of junks from your system. First, get these 5 free programs installed on your system, then run them on SAFEMODE boot. To run on safe boot on Win XP, go to Start, Run, and type: msconfig, then OK, click on BOOT.INI, on Boot Options, tick(check) on /SAFEBOOT, click OK, now restart your computer. Once you're done running them programs, just go back to BOOT.INI and "untick/uncheck" /SAFEBOOT and restart your computer again. Hopefully your computer is much faster and safer now. 1) CCleaner (free) 2) Ad-Aware Se Personal (free from Lava-Soft) 3) Spybot - Search & Destroy (free) 4) TweakNow RegCleaner (free) 5) HiJackThis (free and very useful, but be very careful though) And any of your desire AntiVirus programs.
