wireless kai on laptop

    i have a laptop with a wireless card running kai and an xbox hooked up to a router(also wireless)via cat-5 cable and kay says the network is reachable and i don`t know what else i need to tell u guys but i would like to play kai in my room with my wireless laptop. and mi card says i can make it ad-hoc or infastructure what ever that means.
    any info would help tks
