Hey All, I'm sort of new to wireless networking so I thought that maybe some of you could answer some questions I have. So, I got a used laptop, Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 and I want to connect it to the internet. I have a D-link router set up on my desktop and when I try to find wireless connections on my laptop, nothing comes up. So my questions are...Does my laptop have the ability to connect to the internet? If so, how can I tell if its there or not. Do I have to do something from my desktop? Do I have to buy anything else? Let me know what to do. Cheers!
Does your laptop have a network card? Right click My Computer and select properties. This will open your system properties. Click on the Device Manager Tab. Then, look for network adapters on the list of devices. Double click on Network adapters. See if there's a network card listed. If you haven't got one install one or get a USB network adapter dongle.
Hey, So after a while I found the time to check and it says I have a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI card...and twhen I try to click the wireless network icon, it says windows is unable to blah blah blah....any ideas?
"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have another enabled program to configure this wireless connection, use that software. If you want to use this wireless connection, click "Change advanced settings" click the Wireless Networks tab, and then select the check box labled "Use windows to configure my wireless network settings"" So when I use windows, I get nothing and from what I can tell..there isn't another program I can use. The message I get is "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on you computer is on. To see an updated list, click "refresh network list"" Now I know my psp can pick up signals so I know there are routers in my area, so there should be something found. Any ideas?
