I'm quite aware the title is not a question, I apologise for that. Now, I have just reformatted my PC due to some noob virusing it, everything works fine except for the wireless router. It has worked fine before, and continued to work fine after I reformatted (my laptop was using it during/after the reformatting process). It's just now that I have to install the router and the wireless router that it is going mcspazzo. I have a wired router, which works fine. When I try to run both routers at once, I have the ethernet cable going from my PC to the wireless router, then another ethernet cable going from the wireless router to a wired router ('cause the wireless one can't run on it's own.). As I said before, the wired router works fine, hence why I'm posting this now, it has the phone line connected, as well as an ethernet cable from my PC and obviously, the power cord. How I had it set up before worked fine, which was : ethernet from PC into wireless router, ethernet from wireless router to wired router (which is the only way the wired router communicates with the PC) and the phone line is in the back of the wired router. (the wireless router does not have a port for the phone line.) When connected this way, I type the address of the wired modem (192.168.1.1) and it cannot find it, which it used to have no problem with (before reformattage). But I can still get into my wireless router, or by directly connecting the ethernet cable to my wired router, I can get into it. I've had problems setting it up before, but somehow made it work. Right now, I have alot of things to do and trying to fix my internet is of very low priority, yet is still inconvenient considering the amount of homework I have. Any light on this situation would be greatly appreciated. Even if you feel you have an answer that isn't right, post it anyway. Any help at all would be great. (Sorry for the epic amount of text, it's a 'delicate' situation of sorts)
Need to know a few things first. 1. What do you mean by "it doesn't work"? Does it power on? Can your laptop still connect to it. I'm assuming your PC is connecting to it using ethernet? 2. Why do you have two routers hooked up together? Unless you're talking about a modem (the one with the phone line connected to it). Some modems provided by your ISP are a modem/router or switch combo. If that's the case then check to see if DCHP is enabled on both devices, only one device needs it on, although if they worked before they should be fine. 3. What kind of router(s)/modem are you using? 4. A reformat of your pc shouldn't affect either of those two devices so I'm not sure why "it doesn't work". 5. Have you tried pressing the reset button in the back of the wireless router for 5-10 seconds? If not, go ahead and give it a go. But the downside is you will lose all your custom settings. That's all I can think of for now though.
Sorry about that, i've fixed the problem, the wireless router was being a dick so I restored factory settings and is now working fine. And apologies for calling the wired device a router, it is a modem/router
