Yeah yeah, yer gonna tell me to visit the 2 stickied threads and that'll solve all my problems. I've been there... read through and followed all the instructions. I've installed Gspot and AVIcodec and they both tell me the same thing. The codec being used is Divx5 and I have it loaded. My files play fine in the Divx Player, but not in WMP10. (Mpgs that use MPEG-2 do the same thing but are unable to be played with the Dvix player as well) Any hints besides re-installing XP? Thanks!
This might sound silly, but have you tried in other players on your computer, i.e. winamp vlc, mpc, or anything like that? If you have and it works I would recommend to reinstall Windows Media Player.
I tried vlc & MPC. My files play fine in vlc and the DviX player, but not MPC or WMP9/10 I even uninstalled and re-installed WMP10 with no luck. I still get "The source filter could not be loaded." argh! It must be a codec conflict. I should never have trusted that pack I downloaded a while back. What a noob I am... This is the export list from AVIcodec. Maybe I should go through and manually delete them all and re-install as needed? cvid;Enabled;Radius Cinepak;;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\iccvid.dll divx;Enabled;DivX;6.4.0.51;DivX, Inc.;C:\WINDOWS\system32\DivX.dll ffds;Enabled;?;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_No information available;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\ff_vfw.dll i420;Enabled;Unknown;;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msh263.drv iv31;Enabled;Intel Indeo R3.1;;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\ir32_32.dll iv32;Enabled;Intel Indeo R3.2;;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\ir32_32.dll iyuv;Enabled;Intel Indeo(R) Video YUV Codec;5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\iyuv_32.dll m261;Enabled;MS ICM H.261;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_No information available;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msh261.drv m263;Enabled;MS ICM H.263;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_No information available;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msh263.drv mrle;Enabled;Microsoft RLE Compressor;5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msrle32.dll msvc;Enabled;Microsoft Video 1 Compressor;5.1.2600.0 (xpclientMicrosoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvidc32.dll uyvy;Enabled;Microsoft UYVY Video Decompressor;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msyuv.dll vp60;Enabled;On2 VP4;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_No information available;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\vp6vfw.dll vp61;Enabled;Unknown;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_No information available;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\vp6vfw.dll vp62;Enabled;Unknown;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_No information available;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\vp6vfw.dll xvid;Enabled;XVID Mpeg-4;6.4.0.51;No information available;C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvidvfw.dll yuy2;Enabled;Microsoft UYVY Video Decompressor;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msyuv.dll yv12;Enabled;DivX;6.4.0.51;DivX, Inc.;C:\WINDOWS\system32\DivX.dll yvu9;Enabled;Toshiba Video Codec;5.1.2600.0 (XPClientMicrosoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\tsbyuv.dll yvyu;Enabled;Microsoft UYVY Video Decompressor;5.3.2600.2180 (xpsp_Microsoft Corporation;Microsoft Corporation;C:\WINDOWS\system32\msyuv.dll
That honestly does sound like the next best step, I've had a strange happening like that recently for me as well, certain MKV files I've downloaded won't play in VLC or MPC properly but play perfectly in WMP. I'm just as lost on this one, but I would try to delete and reinstall all the files, you may have to go into safe mode to delete them, or possibly even use another computer to access the drives and manually delete, hopefully that'll fix it for you though.
