World Literature Novels (ISP)

Hi,
Kind of relating to my last post about Books for ISP, but since it's already been answered, and this is kind of urgent, I apologize for posting another thread. Auslander helped me out before in finding two novels that I could compare in a comparative essay, either compare and contrast, or contrast and contrast type of essay. The problem is, my teacher expects the books to be translated into English from another language, and unfortunately, neither Animal Farm or Lord of the Flies were translated into English from another language and so I cannot do these two novels. Can anyone recommend two WORLD LITERATURE NOVELS that I could compare for my Independent Study Project? I need two novels that I could compare, novels that were originally written in another language. Any and all help is appreciated !

The Stranger was originally French. i can't really think of any others at the moment, but i'll see what i can come up with.

 

Thanks Auslander, once again, your effort is much appreciated. I was thinking about Schindler's List, but do you have any idea what I could compare it with? The Stranger also looks very good, but is it a very complicated book? Doesn't really matter, just need two books to compare. I have until tomorrow, I have to hand in the proposals on Friday.

 

The Stranger is very easy reading. i haven't read Schindler's list and thus really can't comment on it. i'll think on this a bit more.

 

Okay, so got anything for me to compare The Stranger too? I am sorry if I am asking too much, but you are really helpful

 

not really. 99% of the books i've read have been in english.

 

Shindler's List made me think of Anne Frank's Diary, which is considered a novel and has been translated into many languages. Not sure if this is what you are looking for?

 

Franks's Diary was originally in german, as that's the language she spoke.

Actually, I only need one World Literary Novel right now, because I only need to hand in one proposal. If you know any novels that I could use, and you know there is another novel I could compare it to but you can't think of it yet, just let me know the first one so I can hand in my proposal . Also, how about Diary of Anne Frank and Schindlers List?

well, Ann Frank's Diary and Schindler's List could be good, talking about the war from different perspectives and whatnot; but, i don't think schindler's list was in anything originally except english.

Yea, I am not really sure if Schindler's List was written in another language first. What about "The Art of War" and "All Quite on the Western Front"?

the art of war was originally chinese, but it is more of a philospical textbook than a real novel. it doesn't even have any real characters.

i've never read All Quiet on the Western Front.

I'm blank I guess, any recommendations? If I did The Stranger, would you be able to think of any book I could compare with it? What about Diary of Anne Frank?
