I have windows xp and my mom thought that it would be a good idea to click on everything that poped up. Well, she got a virus. Now everytime I try to start windows it asks me for user name and password. She doesn't remember what they are. Will safe mode do anything, or is she completely fucked. What about a password recovery or something like that. She doesn't want to lose all her stuff. Can someone please help me! Thanx in advance Hotivonn........
i'm not sure whether you cpu in specific has this option but when i wanted to get on my friends laptop with sp2 without their permission or passwords i just went onto safe mode and went on as administrator without needing a password. you should probably be able to take care of all of problems by means of that
i've tried to get into safe mode but it doesn't work. "tapping" the f8 key just gets me into a boot screen with three options. Boot from the drive, boot from the cd or use a floppy. I also tried tapping the delete key but that just brings me into something totally different. Help
The way I would do it is this: 1) make a bartPE disc from any windows XP computer http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ 2) Download and copy on the bartPE disc RockXP to get or clear passwords http://www.korben.tk/ NOTE: the startup page is not in english, but look to the top left of the page, and click on RockXP. You will see it. now, just go into your bio's and make sure you boot from your CD drive first. It will boot into the bartPE and run RockXP. Your set.
Here's another problem i just found. Everytime i sign in it logs me back out seconds later. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!
Hey, if you have another pc, remove the infected drive and install it as a slave in the pc. Run every virus/adware/spyware program you can. DO NOT ACCESS THE INFECTED DRIVE....dont even click on the drive letter in explorer. If you do you will most likely have two messed up machines.
Sounds bit nasty.. But probably this isnt completely hopeless. you might be able to rescue this system without opening up your case and removing hard drive ( and maybe infect another PC) or formatting whole system.. ( I assume that you have another computer with access to internet at your disposal. ) For this booting problem: You just need to hit F8 littlebit later during booting up.. let bios do its system check and read from masterboot sector and then hit F8. See if this works before going any futher. (And I strongly recommend disconnecting infected pc from network just for precaution.) It doesnt work: then its bit more tricky but not impossible to boot to windows. It works: 1: Select "Boot to safemode" 2: at welcome screen select Administrator and leave password field blank. Or if welcome screen is disabled, type user name: Administrator and again leave password field blank. 3: Now, did it login without problem ? If it did: Skip this section and move on to section 4: If not: You or someone else have set an Administrator password. Try to log in as quest or any other account. Got in? Nice. If you have administrative rights, skip to section 4: . If you logged in with limited account and everything is runnin smoothly: Next we need to test our privileges.. i wont get into details yet.. If you get to this situation please inform me here so i can help you futher.. 4: At this point, you have managed to log in and system is running "normally" ?? Got in but system crashes, kicks you out, hangs..?? at this point i cant come up with anything or are too lazy to write it down right now.. Inform if problems occur.. Something else? What? - Post here if there is any other problems Everything seems to be up and running: This is good news! Now i include a list of programs you "might" need. NOTE: i wont include any links. just google with names given and that should do the trick. And always remember to watch out for fake sites when downloading something. And remember most/all of these programs are for personal use only ! a: Download Hijack This and save it to any location you desire b: Download Spybot S&D. Save it to same location c: Download Comondo BO-clean Anti Malware . d: Download Avira Antivir PE. (or any similar) e: For additional protection download Comondo Personal Firewall Pro (unless you have something similar) f: Also download CCleaner ( a MUST have ) g: Something else ?? ( anyone? ) h: copy everything on USB flash drive or burn to cd.. etc. ( NOTE: if you use P&P mass storage device (USB stick etc.) ensure it is completely empty. If it contains something important copy these files temporary to another computer! ) you MUST format any flash drives before copying these files and connecting it to the infected PC. You also MUST format the flash device after files are copied to the infected pc to ensure that it is clean and doesnt contaminate any other computers! Now, copy files from stick / cd .. to the infected pc. Install all programs at this order: a: Firewall if you had 1 b: Spybot S&D c: CCleaner, Comondo BOclean and HiJack This d: Avira Antivir PE f: Reboot.. remember to boot back to safemode! ( NOTE: for any questions about configuring any of these and ONLY these programs inform here or search for help from somewhere else ( manufacturer page is probably your best bet.). if you use alternative programs, you need to get config help somewhere else ) When you have reached this point. post here for more instructions.. if you have any problems at any stage.. inform and we see what we can do.
