I have tried to burn a DVD since Christmas with my new pioneer DVD burner, i used DVDShrink and burned using Nero 6 but the playback is haphazzard, can someone explain the difference between 4x and 2x burning, my media is 4x, can this be burnt at 2x, and would this improve the quality of the burn as I appear to be getting bad playback at 4x, or could there be another reason I am getting bad playback Also what is joliet?
Playback might improve at 2X. 4X media can be burned at 2X without problems. What is happening during the playback? What brand of media are you using? Cheap discs can cause all kinds of playback problems. How much compression are you using with Shrink? Are you editing out unneeded audio, etc? Try and keep the compression above 70%. The most I can say about joliet is that if you see those little boxes to relax joliet restrictions...do not! I asked that question once and never got an answer. What are the specs on your computer? What OS are you using and what Pioneer did you get? I have the A-06 Sorry about all the questions but the more I know, the easier it is to help.
The action is getting pixelly or stopping completely, yet if you run the dvd a second time it does not stop in the same place but elsewhere, and mostly late in the movie, like at 40 mins or so. I am using Shintaro 4x, it was recommended by the wholesaler that sold me the Pioneer DVR-106D which should be the very latest model. I think I have gotten DVD shrink down pat, and have shaved off all subtitles and other languages, leaving only english. I have also taken all the titles back to where the movie first starts, taking any more off would be too much. I am keeping up the compression as much as is possible. With the jolliet problem, with Nero it wouldnt let me uncheck the "relax jolliet" box, it was greyed out, so the last 3 disks that I burned had the jolliet relaxed, could this be the problem?? and do you know how to change this setting so that I can uncheck the box I am running a Pentium III, 1.2Mhz running on XP pro. 256 memory, 20gig HD. Hope that helps Hope that this helps me answer my problem
If you are you burning in DVD-Video mode, that is correct; the three boxes for relaxing ISO restrictions must be unchecked and the greyed-out joilet box IS checked- my mistake. I've never heard of that media, where in the world are you? I'm on the west coast U.S., Washington state. Try some TDK or Memorex. Are you using +R or -R? Maybe your DVD player would prefer another. What kind of player do you use? Sounds like you are using the programs correctly, so I think a change of media may be in order. Best wishes, Frank
If you are getting problems in different locations then it is probably down to low grade media or compatibility between player and media...... Burning at a lower speed can improve the 'burn process' cos if you have a loaded up HD, then the info may not stream off at a constant data rate, therefore a slower burn may improve things...... The way I check out media compatibility is a little 'crude'..... I burn it at full speed and fill the disc to it's limits, stick it in my player and then skip to and fro' to chapters - beginning to end to the middle - all over the disc, ffwd at full speed and play etc.........if it is good quality then it locks onto chapters instantaneously and plays great......basically I ask the player to drive the 'dvd' hard....... Does the media play OK in the pc (in powerdvd etc) if so then it is more than likely a media/compatibility related issue...... I think the shintaro brand are princo types....... Princo have been known to cause problems.....others may disagree (my opinion with them)....... The shintaro are supposed to be better quality.....however due to my experience with princo, I would never touch them....try a different brand.....traxdata or similar brand with ritek GO4 dye......... BTW your pc specs look ok, I started out with similar specs and it all worked well......however I did have to upgrade to a larger HD as backuping dvd's REALLY drive the HD on smaller ones - defragging is a regular occurance (and a pain in the butt)...... Hope this helps.... _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down [/small]
The Pioneer 106 is a dual format burner... It can burn to +r OR -r discs.......that won't be your problem...... Media problem for sure.....send your husband out to get some higher quality media....whilst we have a chat....LOL....(only joking.......Mr husband no offense intended....)
