depends what's on the cd-r. If music, it can only be an audio cd, not an mp3 cd. If its a game, you will need to mod your xbox.
Try making a normal audio cd first.. 60% at least of xbox drives will not read cd-r If it has 2 extra holes in the dvd tray it's 50/50 that it's a 605b drive which will read !!most!! brands.. but not all. You can try a few different brands of disk, but if it doesn't work after 3 or 4 different makes then forget it.. You can't make them do what the firmware doesn't support. Most will read cd-rw tho..
