OK wait, so ur xbox is modded with XBMC... ok try burning a copy or the auto installer deluxe and see if that will work, if it does install microsoft dash and remove the softtmod...

    U can find that here ---> http://www.aideluxe.com/downloads.html

XBMC isn't keen on dvd's.. try the dvdx player instead.

I FTP'd the folder to E/APPS/ changed DVDx.exe to default.xbe and other .xbe names, it loads, then goes back to unleashX.
How do I get Dvdx to work on the xbox?

Yeah... where did anybody say rename any files?

Look in your (whatever_dash).ini file for "dvd_player" where it will list a path to dvdx.xbe.. make sure that path is correct. Also ensure that autoload dvd is set to ON or YES.. then save and reboot. It should launch the dvd when you put it in.

When xbox wouldn't recognise DVDx.exe I renamed it to .xbe (just thought it would work and it tried to load, but didn't) I had the wrong dvdx program.
I got the right program installed it and tried a dvd. The dvd started, then it began jumping real bad. I uninstalled DVDx and re-installed XBMC now I can not get XBMC to play the DVD, everything else in the program works fine though. It loads, I can navigate, it recognises the DVD, but when I press play, nothing.

I got XBMC to play DVD's and games again.
josh42069, if you're still having trouble with this, try this:
    Go to System/settings/autoluaunch/DVDplayer/E:\apps\XBMC\default.xbe
(I credit varnull for this path)
    Then start XBMC.
go to videos: add source: browse to empty D:(don't put in a disk and don't select the drive, just highlight it and go to ok)
click ok: setup: whatever you want ( I chose OFDB)click ok.
Insert a DVD ( you may have to insert it twice)
    This worked for me.
BTW, thanks varnull and Tbandit your help is appreciated!

Good work. It's usually a path wrong somewhere.

Just about every xbox setup is different (ahhh.. joys of linux) so I could post the relevant ini file off all 3 of mine and none would work for somebody else.

Remember.. As it is linux path statements in files are Case SenSitIve ;)

Not sure why dvdX isn't working. probably as found it's a path error or something as simple as a missing , or "

Softmods especially are awkward as things can be in a "relative" path if using a stealth install.

Burned DVDX to CD-RW, XBMC Loaded to HD, and DVD2XBOX burned to CD-RW
All work, just had to see if I could. (Prefer DVDX to XBMC, easier to work with)
Maybe this can help another newbie
