This has been happening for a few months. There are similar things happening in other discussion threads, but not specifically like this. I have an earlier model Xbox that now boots as soon as I plug into the wall (ie the power button is redundant). When i power off from the dashboard, it turns itself off for 10 seconds then reboots. The only way to keep it off is to unplug from the wall again. I have had no problems with it for years. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
First thing to try, take your xbox part, really all you need to do is take out the hdd caddy, and unplug the yellow wire that goes through the metal heat sheild in the front of the xbox. Then when that cord is unplugged plug your xbox into the wall and see if it powers up. Sometimes the buttons on the power/eject board wear out. I've seen this problem before so more than likely it's your power/eject board. http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=64_26&products_id=51 There's a replacement for you You might be able to get one on ebay too. http://cgi.ebay.com/Xbox-Power-Ejec...QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247.
There is a thread about this very problem on llamma forums.. It's back about 2 years ago but a moderator should be able to point you in the right direction. It's related to leakage between tracks on the mobo and sometimes a failed chip. (one of the original chipset, not anything later fitted) http://forums.llamma.com/viewtopic.php?t=6620&sid=eec682278a0429ef88baba08f7b3360c
