I have a bad drive in my xbox (v1.6). Tried cleaning the laser and all. all I'm wondering is that if I can use a regular DVD drive or to be more precise, a CD-rw/DVD Rom drive in the xbox and will it read the original disks? (I know about the yellow cable hook-ups). Will it work?
If you hook it up in series with the regular Xbox dvd rom it will play orig and backed up, cd's/dvd's, but not orig/backed up Xbox games. There is however a guide over at XS that you can check out on modifying the FW on a regular drive (certain brands only) to use in your Xbox. If you have no mods installed and the system is still under warrenty, return it for a new one. Regards Cold|Fusion
