hey, i have the error 16 on by xbox so i tried to do a hotswap with the xbox and my pc hard drive. It worked, my PC recognized both drives and I thought everything was good, i even checked the device manager for the drive and it was there. But when i opened HDD Driver the program said it searched \\.\physicaldrive0 to \\.\physicaldrive256, and that stumped me. So is the program bogus, am i doing something wrong, or is something against me?
well, i tried xplorer360 and it said it couldn't find a FATX drive to open, is there another method to bring my xbox back to normal, i do everything the guides say and i still can't restore my xbox back to normal. It's wierd.
if your PC recognized the drive (and still does) then goto the control panel, select 'administrative tools' then 'computer management' the on the left select 'disc management' and you'll be able to reformat the drive and then start all new again. kc EDIT: the searched \\.\physicaldrive0 to \\.\physicaldrive256 means the program searched all the possiable locations for a drive attached.
I will try that out tomorrow. But i do have one concern. If i format the hard drive, and insert back in the xbox, then what will happen? Will i have a dashboard, will i be able to play a game? Or will i need to install a new dashboard? If i do need to install a new dashboard, how would i do so?
you'll need to use the XBOXHDM to reinstall the MS dashboard and the C/E folders then use your EEPROM to lock the drive and you're back in business. kc
i was able to fix it. it turns out that the drive was locked so i unlocked it with the "unplug the dvd player" technique, thanks anyway.
the drive being locked isn't what the problem was, it's supposed to be locked, that is why you were hot swapping it, your box had been without power for long enough that the internal clock had lost setting and that forces the box to default boot to the harddrive dashboard which wasn't able to load. replacing the dashboard files is what fixed the problem. kc
