I have an xbox that started out as an unmodded box that crashed during xbox live. It was giving an ERROR-21 code and wasn't modded or anything at this time.. It wouldn't read games, boot disks, nothing. Just the error screen after the xbox boot screen with microsoft logo at the bottom. So in an attempt to salvage the system I hot swapped the HD and installed a copy of evox on it using Xplorer360..

I restarted the xbox and now got an error 16 without the microsoft logo showing up at the bottom of the screen. Error-16 means the clock couldn't be set.. which was understandable considering it had been unplugged and not used in months..

So I decided to install the original MS dashboard and boot it up, and then work from there..

I hotswapped the Hd again, completly cleared the HD of all files, and installed a new MS dashboard I had downloaded in the correct partition on the drive and rebooted.. (I didn't backup the original ms dashboard that was on the drive. i suspected it was corrupted anyways) Once again I was confronted with the ERROR-21...

I don't know where to go from here as far as fixing this xbox. All system files are in the C partiton.. folders T and U data are in the E partiton, and are empty. What is wrong?? I followed the forum on here about using hotwapping to return a softmodded xbox back to it's original state, but it didn't work.

I don't have the files on this machine. I used a different computer to download the files and interact with the xbox's Hdd. I got the link off of this site, but from another forum. Here's the link that I used..

    http://freakyhosting.be/ms-c-hosted-by-pirrup.rar

I unpacked the files and installed them onto the C partition. All other partitions were empty, except for E, which had 2 folders..but both folders were empty as well.

I used Xplorer360 the entire time to delete, and install all of the software. Could anything besides a corrupted dash cause error-21? Because when I originally hotswapped nothing looked wrong with the old dashboard. But since I thought it was corrupted I wiped everything anyways and started over.. Cleared the save contents on the E partiton as well.. So it should've been like a brandnew system.. I don't know what went wrong.

You definitely deleted EVERYTHING on C:\ before writing back the new files!? Does it show the Microsoft logo now?

Yep, it's just like nothing was ever done to it.. When I first got it the xbox logo would show up, and then the microsoft logo at the bottom right before the error-21. Then I modded the HD and got error-16 without the microsoft logo ever showing up...I deleted everything off the drive, and installed the dashboard I downloaded..and now once again I get the error-21 after the xbox screen WITH the microsoft logo after a second or two.

    i would try again..
make sure the partitions are right
RESTORE XBOX'S HDD TO MANUFACTURING CONDITION

After you have xplorer360 to access xbox hdd, then you can tell partition 3 is C drive and partition 4 is E drive. Backup partition 3-4 to PC. Then delete everything in partition 0-4.

So you want to make the xbox's hdd back to manufacturing condition, then you need a complete working MS dash. You can donwload it from bittorrent or get it from your friend's working xbox.

Copy the MS dash to partition 3. Partition 4 has 2 empty folders UDATA and TDATA.

This is the FACTORY XBOX'S HDD:

    Partition3: Audio, Fonts, xboxdashdata, xodash, xboxdash.xbe, Xbox.xtf, Xboxbook.xtf

    Partiton4: UDATA, TDATA

    Partition 0-2 is empty

NOTE: UDATA and TDATA folders are EMPTY. Partition 3 has the complete clean working MS dash.
