    Hey,
my xbox is not working. It doesn't start up to the MS dashboard. it shows an error. I was thinking it would be something wrong with my hard drive. Thats why i was thinking maybe i can install the C partition on another extra drive i have. Please tell me if this is possible or not, if it is, please help me!!

if it is a hd problem, the only way to replace a hd is to mod the xbox.

when you get the error, what (if any) is the number in the top left hand corner? And while you're at it,what mod did you do to your xbox.

I'm getting a number 5 in the left hand corner. i modded my xbox with a Xenium Ice modchip, and its solderless.I also have a faster fan mod, but i took that out and it showed no difference.

First,I'm not a 'chip guy' but considering that your chip is solderless....is it in secure? Does this happen only when you have the chip on,or is it giving an error while it's off as well? Cause if it does it both ways,it might not be your chip....if it's just when your mod is on then it's a good chance there's something wrong with the chip. Might not be a big problem, who knows.

Error 5 - kernel - HDD not locked (retail bioses require the hd to be locked). Judging by the error itself,it's saying that your hard drive is either unlocked or it became unlocked. Since it is a hard drive problem, and not a bios problem (cause if the bios was screwed, would it be able to give you an error?) I don't see any reason you couldn't put an aftermarket hard drive in there. If you want, you could read up on the methods of locking your hard drive...see if that solves your problem.

If you can boot to a disk,it would help you if you could make one with config magic on it and use that to lock your drive....but I dunno if it'll work.
