I've recently wanted to use xbox live with my modded xbox and upgraded hd. I want it because of the content downloads and extra maps. I read on the forums and some threads say all that I would have to do is turn the modchip off. Others say that MS would be able to detect an upgraded HD and block my xbox.

My question is, what is the sure way that I won't get booted off of xbox live? In other words, what would I have to do to make sure that I could have a modded xbox and still use xbox live? Would I constantly have to turn off my modchip and switch out my hd?

Dont worry about a thing buddy. I have a 250gb HDD and an x-ectuter 2 Lite Mod in my xbox. All I do is turn the chip off and log on to Live.

**However you should do a search about the " Marriage Theory " Which I firmly believe in*****

    Heres a quick summary:

    1) The very FIRST time you sign up to live you need to have the upgraded drive in.
(If you already have/had an account forget the upgraded hdd)

    2) Once you're on live mark the HDD in the xbox
(A Big Green Marker Across The Top will do the trick)

    3) That is the only HDD you should ever use to connect to live
    FOREVER.

Follow the marriage theory, turn the mod off and dont have a network cable plugged in when the mod is on and you should be golden!

Put me on your friends list and we'll play Halo 2 sometime
    Gamer Tag: GreenValor7

PS- Keep any Halo Hacks off the HDD, Bungie just did a huge update that will ban you if they see it on your HDD.

    Peace~

TRUST ME the marriage theroy is totaly correct. I have had to change my stuff around 3 times now to get it working right.
The first time I just had the chip and would play off the MS Original bios which worked fine even with the spice chip. Well I accidently used a game loaded on the hard drive and it loaded up live and got me banned. I changed the hard drive and changed the EEPROM and my brother did the same thing banned again. So now they also read the size of your hard drive. I ended up putting 2 drives in my xbox. A new non banned hard drive(stock xbox one) And a 180 gig with a switch to go between the two. I changed the eeprom again and it works great im back on live with no problems. I just switch to the original xbox hard drive and dont boot the chip and im playing fine. Want to play hard drive games just switch it over to the other hard drive and boot up with the chip. I also hooked a red and a green led by the switch. Red for the hacked drive (the eject also glows red) and green for live (eject stays green) It kinda idiot proofs it.

Oh yah if someone can host my pics I can take some of my completed xbox with the two drives. I used one of those fans that go on the outside of the xbox from ebay. I gutted that and cut out the sides of the xbox so I have no fitment issues.

Ok here are some quick pics I snapped. I didnt want to get the tools out so I couldnt take it all the way apart. I have to get some 2 sided tape to hold the fan shroud on the side of the xbox. There is a pic of the stock setup with the green light and the hacked with the red. Dont mind the electrical tape its just bundling wires together. Every connection is soldered and heat shrinked.

I can take more pics if anyone wants them. I just found out you cant see the colors of the led's but theres a front shot on there. Just let me know what you think.

Jaysrt4 - that looks so complete awesome! Did you get the switch with the hard drive or did you make it? I'm assuming you made it :) I'm planning on doing the same with mine, but the finished product on www.llamma.com isn't very attractive at all. The cover of the Xbox is loose and the hard drive sits on top. Would you be so kind as to pointing me in the direction of some helpful information or tutorials that might help me on my way? I am so completely jealous with your switchbox and the LED idea...I'd do just that but it's too bad I lack the knowledge and experience to be able to do it...thanks.

Thanks. Its easy to do just takes time. I bought the dual kit from lamma but I really had to add alot of wire to the molex connector and had to change the placement on the connector to hard drives. I will get a how to up soon because I will be doing my friends soon.

I was thinking about getting the premade cables, but thought twice since I don't really like online purchases, and what's the fun in having everything done for you ;)? Yeah that'd be really REALLY sweet if you could get something up for all to see. I'm sure it'll help a lot. Thanks a whole bunch and awesome job!

I think I might add another hard drive in there also. I think I can fit a laptop hard drive under the dvd drive. I will have to see. When you buy the llama kit its far from completed. You get wires a switch and the cable and all of it needs to be modified to work no plug and play really. Just saves you the time of going out to the store really and looking for it all. I noticed today that it seems to be running a little hot so I am going to put a dual fan on the top of the hard drives hopefully it will fit without too much hacking. I am going to get the fans tomorrow so I will have a ton of pics of the inside and fitment.

Alright sweet, but I have some questions: how much room exactly is there in the Xbox to work with? If I really modded it exactly to the way llamma did it, would I really have to leave the hard drive on top and the cover dangling? Also, would it really get that hot that I would have to install another fan? I really want to keep everything as compact and simple as possible. Lol ya I know it's not plug and play, but it's not exactly a walk in the park for finding all the right parts. The Source Circuit City (previously Radioshack) has pretty much everything, except for power connectors. I'll be waiting anxiously for the pics, to see how the switch and all is setup. Still eager to see the tutorial when you have the time to work on it ;)

If you have $50 to shell out, then I'd suggest you check out the Xtender at:
    http://www.modchipman.com/xtender-h....html?osCsid=c07899bafbd84b95d0d5d96217a24d22

All the hard work is taken care of for you, you only have to solder the 3 wires (2 if you have v1.6 Xbox) and you're good to go. I did it to one of my boxes. It lets you add 2 extra HDDs, so 3 total if counting the original. It has the external switch with LEDs so you'll know which HDD you're using. The only con is that it'll make your Xbox super bulky, but there's no other way, and I personally don't mind the look. I kinda like it, makes my Xbox looks "tough" hehe.

Yeah I saw that looked interesting but I didnt really like the look. I also wanted to go for a cheaper way. I am actually thinking of getting this plexiglass clear one they make i forget who actually makes it but it holds more hard drives plus 2 or 3 80 mm fans which is nice. The only problem is that I heard you gotta find a way to get your solderless modchip to work because theres no place for the screw to go who knows. I am on my way to comp usa now to get the fan. As soon as I get it all together I will make a detailed how to including how long to make the cables and all that stuff. All together I think it should cost about 40 bucks to do this mod if you dont have the stuff already.

The Xtender looks absolutely gorgeous, but $49.99 translates into a bit over $60 CAD, and then tax and shipping is gonna kill me. Are there any Canadian resellers? It said on the site that it allows room for more LEDs and such, and also for an LCD display...what would the purpose of one of those be? Oh yeah, my Xbox is v1.0 btw

Ok my project is finaly finished well for now. I am just going to link my gallery for the pics so check em out. I added a dual fan to the top I think I might paint it to match not sure yet though. Im letting the xbox run now to see how hot it gets now. I will be working on the how to soon. In the pics you can kinda see what I had to cut mostly it was the hard drive holder. Lots of dremel time here lol. If I were to do it again I would wait till I was finished cutting before I painted it I chipped it a little bit but oh well learning experience ya know. And its been a week and I am still not banned from live whoohoo.
