Hi all. My daughters Xbox, a first release V1 type had a problem with the HDD so I bought a new Xbox HDD off EBay thinkung it may work. Well, as I've now found out it didn't solve the problem, on boot up it's reporting that my xbox needs servicing. Do I have to send it off or does anyone know any workarounds?
Are you getting a number in the top left corner? maybe a 5,6 or 7? You can't just change the HDD! They are unique to each Xbox!
I also had a sneaky thought that each HDD was unique, so what i tried, as my new HDD was a western digital tye(same as my old one) was swaping the pcb from my old drive with the new one They are identical. It spun great with no funny sounds, but still had the same message and a number that I hadnt noticed before, 06 Your Xbox requires service. Please call Xbox Customer Support.
you'll need the EEPROM from the original drive to be installed on the new drive and the only way to do that is via a mod. I'd recommend getting a chip popped in it, the Xecuter X3ce and it'll take care of that little problem as well as allow you to play your games from the harddrive or backed up from disc. kc
