    hello all

i recently found an old xbox original in the scrapyard where i work, i aquired all the leads and plugged it in, i then got the error 16 message and green and red light flash however i put a game in and opened and closed the cd draw a few times and it miraculosly went on to the clock set screen.

i didnt have an xbox pad at this time tho so thinking id fixed it i went out and bought a pad and few games from cash converters.

i plugged the pad in and set the time and date and all appeared well, i put a game in and it loaded the xbox microsoft logo then i heard a few clicking type noises presumably coming from the hard disk drive and i got the error message ' your xbox requires service. please call the customer care number listed in your instruction manual'.

the xbox will play audio cds no problem just not games. any ideas what could be wrong, id be grateful for any help. thanks.

16 - dashboard - Clock cannot be set

If the clock is set you shouldn't get error 16 again. I'm guessing the laser is going dead in the xbox. You can fix it by turning up the power to the dvd pot on the laser.

    Read this tutorial

As for the error 16 i'm guessing the hard drive is on it's last leg. If i were you i would fix the dvd drive and then backup the eeprom asap. This way you can easily make a new xbox hdd and not have to worry about any of the errors returning.

hmmm, i have no idea how to back up my eeprom, and when i get my dashboard loaded up and go onto memory the sound starts to stutter and it says 0 blocks and 0 available. it also then becomes unresponsive and the screen freezes all the while i get a clicking noise just like a hard disk. is my hard disk knackered? and if thats the case what do i need to do to restore it? i dont think its been modded in any way.
