Xbox shuts off?

I got an xbox off a friend for 10 bucks and every now and then it will shut off in the middle of a game and if it hasnt been used in a while it wont start right away but if u tap it a little bit it does. Why does it do this? And is there a way i can fix it?

 

Look like the CPU or GPU got overheat problem. Open xbox find where the heat comes from.

 

maybe the fan is messed up so the xbox overheats. also try making sure the outlet and the power plug are connected correctly
