xbox softmod problems, Need an experts help, xbox to usb extension issue, xbox controller to pc usb

Hi Xbox Softmod Experts,

I am new to this forum. I was trying to softmod my xbox which i purchased recently from EB Games in Australia. They were selling cheap now for preowned games and consoles. I was not able to find any Action Replay in any of the store so far in Melbourne, Australia. If anyone has any idea please let me know.

There are few problems I came across so far.

I have XBOX original and non-xbox (powerwave) controller.

Problem - 1

I didn’t have action replay so first thing I tried to make an usb extension to XBOX so it can detect my 1GB SanDisc micro usb with U3 loaded in it. I connect XBOX male to usb Female.

XBOX male connector has RED, BLUE, WHITE, GREEN AND YELLOW cables. And USB Female has RED, BLACK, WHITE & GREEN cables.

XBOX male connector was cut from one of the XBOX extension cable.

I connected

XBOX Male ---> USB Female

BLUE ---> BLACK (Assumed that Blue is Black, bcos no black on controller male)
RED ---> RED
WHITE ---> WHITE
GREEN ---> GREEN
YELLOW ---> <NOT CONNECTED - CUT>

SanDisc micro usb has a small orange color LED inside for indication. When I connected my usb to XBOX - USB extension, it lit up that LED but didn’t show it in Xbox. It was not even showing a message to reformat it as per some of the forum explained here.

I did format it to FAT32 before placing it in to XBOX to USB extension.

Please experts help me to make this one working ...

I Also attached another USB Female with just green and white crossover.

XBOX Male ---> USB Female

WHITE ---> GREEN
GREEN ---> WHITE

But that didn’t work either.

Problem - 2

As I explained that above solution didn’t work so I tried to connect my XBOX (powerwave) Controller to computer and use Action Replay Software to load game exploits in it.

I soldered XBOX Controller with USB Male as follows

RED ---> RED
WHITE ---> WHITE
GREEN ---> GREEN
YELLOW ---> <NOT CONNECTED - CUT>

When I connected this controller (with memory card in it) to my computer USB it did detect a new usb device but it was indicating as a unknown device. And was not allowing me load an Action Replay driver to it. It was indicating that hardware unidentified. I checked usb device with usbview software and all VID and PID were 0x0000. That’s why it was not detecting hardware.

When I solder original Xbox male connector back to Xbox controller and plug in to Xbox it was working fine, without any problem.

Please help me with this one, if anyone can.

Problem - 3

I connected my controller to Xbox with memory card in it.
I start my Xbox console and selected memory for dashboard.
It was showing me Xbox as well as memory in controller 1.
I selected controller 1. It showed me all the gamesaves someone has loaded in Xbox memory card.

When I selected one of them it was just showing me the option to delete only. There was no option to copy it in to hard drive.

I saw some screenshots on some tutorials where you can see both copy and delete option but in my memory card it was just showing delete. There was no option for copy.

Can anyone suggest me how to enable copy option?

allright, you seem knowledgeable, so here goes.

problem one and two.

you soldered it correctly, yellow is not used. BUT, the xbox uses the fatx partition and not fat32! you have to format the usb drive using fatx partition!!!!

problem 2. you need an xbox usb driver (or is it an usb xbox controller driver for windows). but you get the point, you need a driver to get the controller working with windows. there is one floating around on the net, but the memory card slot is not accessible i think/believe. but go for solution 1, that will be easiest for you. don't see the purpose of using an xbox controller on your pc.

problem 3. if you go into your dashboard, and go to gamesaves. and if you sit on the item and press a (button a), you will 'enter' the gamesave. then you have the option to copy it to the harddrive (took me also some time to figure that out, i too in the beginning only seen the delete options)

good luck

if all fails, go for the hotswapping trick. another way of softmodding without any extra hardware needed

 

I know that xbox use FATX partition not FAT32 but you cant format usb flash drive to FATX on your computer. Because computer is running windows and it allow you to format it into FAT32 or FAT. So I format it on my computer to FAT32 as I read that on another forum for softmodding.

Than I place formatted (FAT32) usb flash drive in my XBOX's usb extension to format it again for FATX but my XBOX was not detecting it at all. And was not prompting a message "The memory card wasn't working properly and has now been erased" as mentioned in this forum. I cant see any usb in xbox dashboard under memory section so I cant format it. If my connections are correct, if my usb flash drive are from recommanded supplier then what could be the wrong?

You need xbox usb driver to get controller working for a windows as a game pad and that driver is called XBCD. And it is available on internet. It can easily found by googleing XBCD. And you cant access a memory slot using that driver or software because that is to play games on PC using xbox controller.

But If you want to access a xbox memory card from pc there is an another software called Action Replay which you can download from internet (rapdishare) and is mentioned in this softmod post. And using that software and drive associated with that you can access a memory card placed in xbox controller slot and you can load gamesaves or game exploits in memory cards and then take that memory card to xbox to place those gamesaves and game exploits in harddrive for softmod. (Experts who knows about this please correct me if I am wrong)

I will see if I can figure it out what you are saying. I will try that tonight.

If you know any good tutorial for that can you please point that to me. I will try to google it anyway.

 

see the link i put in my original reply, there it is explained how to format the drive and get it working. if you tried that, and it didn't work, you might have an incompatible usb drive. since i will not question your soldering skills, i believe they are just fine, that can be the only reason that your usb drive is not supported.

here are 2. the timing is rather picky with hotswapping. since i tried it a few times and never got it to work i gave up. although others swear by it.

The Process:

Ok, with that all out of the way, lets make this happen!

Firstly, make sure there is nothing on the USB that you need as we are about to format it!

Turn on your Xbox and navigate to the 'Memory' screen. Insert your USB cable and connect the USB drive to it.

If all went well, an error should have popped up saying " The memory card wasn't working properly and has now been erased".

This is NORMAL!!! The USB drive has now been formatted to the Xbox format.

I mentioned exactly the same thing in my post. An Extra stop I did was format my flash drive to FAT32 before placing in to XBOX usb extension.

If i am missing something please pointing out that to me.

Today I am going to using another SanDisc 1GB Cruser Micro Drive from someone else and place driectly in to XBOX usb extension to detect and format it by xbox itself. Lets see whether it works or not.

I am also going to resolder my xbox usb extension just to make sure.

I don't know whether I mentioned before that when I connected modded xbox controller to PC using home brew connection, my computer was detecting new USB device but it wasn't detecting a manufacturing and product id of device and was also not showing storage device too even though card was plugged in to xbox controller. So I could not able install Action Replay driver for controller to access memory card.

Finally today I bought a cheap ps2 to xbox/usb connector which has a slot to place xbox memory card. When I plugged that device in my usb port of laptop it was showing an xbox memory card as a storage device inside usbview software. And this time when I tried to installed Action Replay driver and it was successful.

Now I was able to transfer SID Installer and Splinter Cell PAL game exploit to memory card. Then I transferred that to XBOX Hard Drive.

Problem : I was following the instruction from this post. I have downloaded installer and exploit from same post.

Step 1 : After transferring splinter cell PAL game exploit to XBOX HDD and SID 4.0 Installer, I place splinter cell classic DVD in drive.

Step 2 : When game was Up, I select 'Start Game', then click 'LINUX' and then 'Check Points'. After select 'Check Points' TV Screen went white for a moment and then it started loading game from start again from 'ubi soft' logo. And LED of eject button changed its color from Green to Orange.

I repeated same steps few times but no change. Can anyone please help me resolve this problem.

the game should be fine. since you get the 'linux' option in the game, it should work.

there is a sid 5 installer floating around, maybe that works better.

i also assume you have upgraded to the 5960 dashboard?

in the past i had similar problems (running the sid only gave me a black screen and that was it), for me the problem was that the ms dashboard was damaged and/or not running the 5960 dash. after a fresh reload of the dashboard / repair of the dashboard the sid installer ran and worked fine (mainly v1.6 xbox). so check if you have the latest dashboard installed, if not, install that (use a live enabled post halo2 game).

it has to be installed anyways if you want to softmod....

I checked my xbox dashboard and it has 1.00.5960.01.

But when I startup my xbox and when xbox Logo appear on screen at the bottom of the screen in orginal dashboard 'Microsoft' written there. But in my dashboard it is written 'XECUTER'. I think someone has modded it before. I dont know whether it was softmodded or hard modded but 'XECUTER' has hard mod chip available. So I assume it was hard modded. But there are not marks of removing screws or pads from the bottom of the xbox. I dont know if someone has done a really good job to make it look like it is not modded.

Does anyone know if above mentioned matter can affect a by any way and prevent me to start softmod installer ?? and can it be resolved by updating dashboard on xbox??

I am thinking to rent a game DVD from videoezy today and try to update my dashboard anyway.

Which games other than Halo2 allows me to update my dashboard? I will try to rent Halo2 but in case I could not.

I have also downloaded SID 5.01 for memory card and use that for further softmod efforts.

apparantly you have a tsop flash. if you press the power button only once quickly and you get the executer logo immediately, you most probably will not have a chip. in this case there is no need to softmod the hard way, with a tsop flash you can run copies/unsigned code from boot / start up.

so:
forget about the methods of softmoddding.

go download yourself a copy of the slayer disc or the aid disc (bittorent or elsewhere). burn that onto a cdrw or whatever, pop that into the xbox and run that. it will boot from startup. then choose your dashboard of choice.

no need to update your dashboard, you have the latest. but with a tsop flash the slayer disc and aid will do that if needed.

Hi Experts,

I have installed XBMC dash board on E Drive with dual mode option.

When I am in Auto Installer Deluxe or XBMC Installer Deluxe and i change dashboard it select E drive from that it switch to XBMC and work perfectly alright without no problem.

When if i boot my XBOX with DVD Eject button and keep tray open until it boot, it does go in to MS Dashboard.

In MS Dashboard everything is fine except when i got to System -> Network it doesnt show settings for network. It was showing that before. I dont know what is a problem.

But when I boot XBOX with little power button after flubber animation LED of Eject button trun in to orange color but it doesnt load XBMC dashboard.

If anyone know how to fix this then please help me.

On AID Menu, I selected Softmod One-Click Installation -> Dual Boot with MS -> XBMC Dashboard in Drive E

Can I reinstall MS dashboard with SlaYers DVD and start whole thing again? Does that work? I want to do fresh installation anyway.
