Here's another idea, how about being nice to a new user who made a small mistake?

Bummer. Can it still make it to the MS dash when a disc isn't inserted? Your DVD drive might have been damaged due to the way it landed. It might just be a simple drive swap if that's the case.

You might want to take it to Best Buy or something that has repair service. I do know that Best Buy has the top dog award in customer service.

    Just ignore gogochar...

Anyway, back on topic. The menu that comes up when a disc isn't inserted is often referred to as the MS dash, or the Microsoft Dashboard. Gives you access to game saves, settings, music soundtracks, etc.

Since it still shows up, that's at least a sign that the hard drive is still doing it's job.

The only way to test the DVD drive is to just put in a compatible disc (retail music CD, game, DVD movie) and see if it plays or not. If nothing plays, then your drive is mostly likely dead.

There's a couple things you can do to fix this.

Send it to MS and let them fix it, since it's under a year old. Even if they don't cover it under warranty, they won't charge too much for it to get fixed.

Or, replace it yourself. You can either buy a ready-to-go replacement drive like the ones offered on diveneo.com or try doing what this guy did.

Or, use this guide for replacement LG drive.
