Anyway I can mod the tray so I can set this on its side? its so damn big theres no room for my PS2 and GC its either beside it or on top of it *L*. already have a black tape/tiny screw thing going tis not bad but not perfect you have o keep a finger on it till retracts the tray. I wonder if other DVD/CD trays will fit....mmmmmm
Yeah, it wouldn't be all to difficult either; in theory. You would simply need to tack some thin plastic onto the tray, around the edges of the cd, which would prevent the cd from falling out. The real question is, after fusing a sort of 'rail' to the tray, to keep the disc in place while the system is sideways. One would need to angle the side facing the disc, to prevent any possibility of scratching. Some of the units already have this sort of overhang implemented. The only issue I can foresee, is whether the motor and alignment in the drive will be able to balance and read the disc. And if they're able to, will it be too much work on them, in a way that might cause the drive to die faster? Those are my concerns, but if you like, I can generate a schematic, and images of the overhang type fix, as well as practical ways to do it. I've done a lot of structural modifications to systems, so this is nothing new for me. Just let me know what you're looking for.
handsom I got my 15$ 165 rotary tool kit today complete with rotary TOOL :3 lets just say I made it CD side loading perfect now,it was rather easy use the cuttings discs witch was almost perfectly lined up with it screw on top it made it the prefect fit,I took plastic off the left side since at the time I had the the tape mod on it ,I cleaned up the plastic with small screw drivers and small files so theres nothing jaggy there,it now works like a charm! ^^ and yes I plugged the hole with paper towels to keep the dust from getting in it,it was so easy took less than 5min with the tool ^^ damn not olny did I score something nice and cheap off ebay its also something I can use on any other project that wonders into my craven skull! ^o^
True Dremel, or generic, I'm curious. If it's generic, just don't try cutting any metal with it, I learned that one the hard way. I was pleased, however, to discover that a true dremel was only thirty bucks at the local shops; and the cheapo kit gave me a lot of the needed attachments already. Any read errors, or other performance anomolies?
Its a generic, whenever I upgrade I will get one of thos cordless dremels :3 I have not had any issues with the Xbox, when I was figuring out if it could ran on its side the disc would not go in right and load stick and not spin this was before the tape, with the tape it it never not played, just bump the thing as it closed good thing I have a crummy poker game to test things with *L* after the dremeling it no proms I made sure not to get dust in t and clean the dremeling sicne it make s a mash of simimelted plastic *L*
OH! Heads up mate! The cordless ones are no bueno, they aren't nearly as strong, the juice runs out pretty fast on serious jobs, and (I can't verify this one) but rumor has it they also cause irritable bowel syndrome. "IBS infects one in three Americans, most IBS sufferers just don't know they have it."
handsom and I bet they don't have replaceable battiers either ah well its not like I am getting one this year maybe this time NEXT year *L* about the generic one have you tried opening one up and seeing if you can fix it for better torque? I recall rebuilding a craftMaster cordeless screw driver 10 or so years ago I had it for acoule years and it was getting old so I opened it up and regressed it and it worked fine for another 4 years befor I lost the AC/DC to it *L*
It seems that they really just don't have high quality motors in them to begin with. I suppose you coud give it an honest effort, and it's not like you'd lose anything. I wouldn't really bother with torquing a wireless, because of the battery limitation. And yes, they sell replacements, for about 3/4 the original unit's cost. lol.
handsom Mmmm have you every tried useing a RC car battery to replace a normal non muli speed battery? these this are insanely powerfully! 6volt 1AH ! plus thier like 7 a pop 14 with recharger :3 I have moded mine to run all sorts of 4+ AA devices and use it as a backup for my 9V silk hobby drill. sure you dont get full speed control but it you have to drill its fine *L* the only downside to them is I cant find any premade battery boxs for them 0_o
Interesting, I never thought of that, but I dunno how much I'd like a dremel with an extra battery mechanism attached to it, it seems like it halfway defeats the convenience of the cordless in the first place. I mean, sure, it's not dependant on the wall's outlet, but you still have extra junk to deal with that can get in your way. For now, i'm perfectly pleased with my Dremel, it sees a lot of use, and it's about to see a lot more, as I'm currently studying various etching and engraving techniques for several new projects I've been putting off.
the RC bat I am using is 2 1/8 inchs wide and 3 long. its not prefect and has a od size but it has GUTS! *L* if they make a cordless dremil with a double battery pack then I will go for it but for now this will do.
