hi i have a softmodded xbox with a extra 40gig HDD installed. i have a odd problem some time my xbox will not start up if i leave it unpluged for x hours it sometimes starts up but when it does it plays all my back up games, original games, and games of my HDD fine untill i turn it off for a few minutes. do you guyes have any ideas on what the problem is and what i can do to fix it?
I had a problem like this with a box that I modded.....although it wasn't modded at the time of the problem it still used to NOT BOOT all the time. It would only boot if I caught the hdd at mid spin down....so that's why I modded it and when i replaced the hdd it worked fine. I'm not saying that it's your problem,but the hdd could be going.....hopefully not though.
if it's the HDD wouldn't the green light at lest power on or a noise from in side like the fan or such but i do here it power down a sec. after its unpluged like a chirp or squeek sound. i have a 40gig in my xbox now if its dieing i would like to save the dat on it. could i copy the dat on my curent HDD to a new one? if so what would i need.
i was messing with it and i do think my HDD is going. i havd to rev it up a bit to get it to work. so that leaves my other question. how would i get the files to a new HDD can i use dos (not likly huh) or lynux and whats the best way of doing this?
