I have aquired a second xbox. It seemed as if the problem would only be a bad hard drive (it was clicking rather loudly). I modded my first xbox a while ago and figured I could use my removed hard drive from my first xbox to get this one up and running until I was ready to mod it. When I put the hard drive in the xbox I get "Your xbox requires service" message without any LED number codes. The DVD LED is flashing green/red.

I tried the HD in my other xbox and it works just fine, I also tried using the DVD from the working Xbox but still get the same code.

The working (modded) xbox is a 1.6 and the broke one is one of the very first ones (1.0 I think)

    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I need some advice too. My Xbox keeps going on the blink. Makes that same clicking noise but, service message appears, LED flashes red, but then works later on.

I was going to replace HD with 200GB and add modchip but do you think it is better to just wait for the 360 to come out instead of trying to resurrect old Xbox?

    I welcome any suggestions!

Well depending on what you are going to do with the xbox. Personally i just keep movie clips, songs and games on my xbox so really im good with a 120gb hard drive (alot cheaper)

And for the question that started this new post. I was searching around for people that repair xbox's around my town, and there are 2 things that will help you trouble shoot the problem.
    1. Find out what Error you are getting. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210562
    ^^^^^^^^^^^Go There^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    2. Find out weather or not you can fix it yourself. Personally i am getting the number 05 error, this means that my hard drive is locked, after talking to the guy that mighyt fix it for me, he said it is more the likly just a bad sotter, making my mod chip short out and turn off my hard drive.

    anyways, hope this stuff helped.
