if your system is banned but you still have an active xbox live account, or want to create one, then all you have to do is put your hard drive onto a 360 that isn't banned, sign in on your account and you can obtain media updates for your system and downloadable content for your games. just make sure you put in the game you are downloading the content for so it can update ( you have to sign out of dashboard and actually start playing the game on the un-banned 360 ), otherwise the content wont show up. I had the same problem. i updated to the new dashboard and was no longer able to play avi. files and kept getting error code 51-coodf236. my 360 is banned so i borrowed my cousins 360 swapped my HDD onto it got the media update and a bunch of stuff for games. when i plugged my HDD back into my 360 it updated the system and im able to watch avi. files streamed from my computer using TVersity. thought i was screwed but now anytime i want an update or DLC i just take my HDD to a friends house that has a system that isnt banned.
