Are you able to burn other things..ie cd's? Also open Xpress, click settings... are you able to select your burner? And what LiteOn model... is it +R, -R, or dual format?

the model is liton 8x DVD+-r/+-rw

i did use the recordnow software that came on my
laptop to burn an exact copy of an unprotected
instructional dvd and it worked perfect.
i did that to make sure my burner was actually working
it just doesnt seem to want to work with xcopy xpress

    thank you for helping!

Well make sure you've selected it as your burner. Open Xpress, select settings, then see if you burner is listed, if so click it and save. And try to burn.

Are you up to date with windows update? I know XP had a update for usb 1.1 and 2.0. Also is your thinkpad compatible with usb 2.0, if its a newer one I'm sure it is. One thing you can do and it wouldn't hurt is update your aspi layer. ForceASPI is the easiest to install.

Well, I've seen threads on problems with burners being on usb 2.0

You can try updating to the current version of Xpress if don't have it already.
    http://xcopy.co.uk/updates/?=s76gdfdsd675abcdf565gf65a

Also you can try DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter(both are free). Also do you have Nero?

yes i read some of the older posts and saw that too
but i didnt think that was the problem since my
record now software burned my unprotected dvd
very quickly and with no problems.

i dont know how all that works, but, can it work on the usb for one and not for the other i.e. xcopy

    thank you for your help

I don't think in this case.. your hardware. I think its a problem with XCopy and usb 2.0. In another thread a member got his to work by switching to usb 1.1

If you wanna try something else, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink are free.

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter:(Both are free)

    1) Open Shrink, open disc
    2) Click "backup!"
    3) Change target destination to "ISO Image File"
    4) Check box to Launch DVD Decrypter
    5) Click ok.

make sure you create ISO files. Decrypter will only burn ISO's. Also if you ever run into a movie shrink won't rip... Use the long process, rip with Decrypter(in file mode), use shrink to compress, then burn with Decrypter

    BambiOk,
    This is a must.

If that start button wont light. THat means that Xcopy doesnt recognize the dvd burner as the burner.
You must run the drive select option thats within xcopy,
    Presuming you're running XP
    Start>all programs>321studios>xcopy>drive select.

Now, if you click on the drive select and nothing happens, presuming that the USB burner is the only burner that you have, xcopy has recognized the burner and all is well, here.
If a window opens, you must select the burner from the drop down arrow and click OK.
Now be certain and do this before you rip, if you dont, you'll have to repeat the process of ripping.
Now with xcopy, usb 1 doesnt work very well if at all.
You must use usb 2, so dont switch, OK?

Also, try uninstalling the usb drive as well as the usb drivers in device manager. Reboot the pc and let windows reinstall and after that, reboot and try the drive select.
To discover the xcopy version go to add/remove programs in control panel, it will tell you there. Please pass that info back to me, this will nost definately help.

Hit me up if this doesnt work or if you need additional assistance.
