I'm not sure if this is a known problem or if it's just my problem ,but my new DVD-r drive won't play anything but CD media,I've got WinDVD loaded but all it does is when I load a DVD ,and attempt to play it, the program freezes up and I have to manually eject the drive ,them the program will close .I've tried this drive as i would like to use it,mounted into an external 2.0 USB case, and directly to the motherboard sec. IDE channel with the same results, also when playing CD media on WinDVD the green led on the ext. case stays on and the media plays fine, but with DVD media,it locks and the led blinks from green to red back and forth, a buddy says I should re-install XP ,with the service pack 1,and hope it works,I'm trying to avoid this if possible, could this be the problem ? any advice would be appreciated, thanks

My dvd-r must be a defect, I bought and hooked up a 16X Lite-on dvd-rom in the same ext. usb 2.0 case and it worked perfect. So we'll see how things go after I swap my DVD-R drive for another one,if I come up with the same problem I'm gonna go crazy, but for now I'm feeling better now that I see that my PC is working great with the usb case. I'll post my insanity if it continues, thanks for letting me vent!

My Litey LTD 165H can read [bold] any media [/bold] at present m8 with the ch11 firmware update. Whatever brand name of the dvd-rom you have, check for a firmware update. Do you still have the Litey? If so, what model? (163\165\166)
Windoze Service Pack 1 has nothing to do with the dvd-roms ability to read any type of dvd media.

Shoey I've got 163 model, it works great, and I've exchanged my Pioneer A05 for a unit that works ,my supply house asked no questions and handed me another,so now both drives are reading fine, and I've put the ext. 2.0 usb case away till I find another use for it,I made up my mind to take all my Plextor scsi drives and the scsi card out of this machin e and kepp it completely IDE from now on,I'm building a separate machine for my scsi stuff cause I still need the burners for my CD+g stuff,as far as I can tell the A05 or the Litey 163 doesn't read or write CD+G format,I was looking into the new Padus Discjuggler to see if it works well with the A05,I've got the new version on disc ,and I think it's the one that also burns DVD,my buddy hooked me up,i haven't loaded it yet.thanks for the reply!

Your Litey 163 [bold] will read CD+G format [/bold] but you may need a firmware update m8. Use Nero Info Tool to see what your rom(s) read media support.

Shoey , my lite-on is a XJ-HD165H tonight I installed it in my tower but for some reason it's not being seen,I plugged it to the MB's sec. IDE channel, and I left the jumper set to master, should it be at slave? remember my Maxtor ata133 HD and my A05 are connected to my 133 adapter card, and the A05 has it's jumper set at master also could this be the problem? thanks

Your Maxtor should be set to master and your AO5 to slave. If your Litey is all by itself then setting at master should cause no hardware conflicts m8 and be detected by Windoze. I noticed your Litey already has the firmware ch11 on the drive so no need to flash.

    Shoey :)

let me clarify something, when I mentioned my MAxtorHD and my A05 were both hooked to the ata133 card ,I mean at this time they have their own cables for each drive, cause the card has two slots one per each drive ,are you saying that the better configuration would be to have these two drives sharing one IDE cable to the card? if so the other slot on the card would be open ,would it be better to run my Lite-on drive to the open slot on the ata133 card, please let me know which jumper settings I should use,I'm getting closer to getting my hardware issues cleared up,then on to the next step DVD buring! thank m8!
