xp to htpc!!

    hi i have p4
    512mb memory
    120gb hdd
    with dvd-rom
    sony single layer brner

    now there is a graphic card built in motherboard

    i want to upgrade two things

    memory-howmuch more mb i can go for
    graphic card- whatkinda graphic card should i go for

    by the way its only for playing dvd's , mp3, photos

    Your motherboard can only support so much ram. Plus it has to be a specific type.

    What currently is popular for video cards is the PCIExpress cards. You'll want a fair bit of onboard memory. All newer computers should have a PCIe slot which may or may not already be filled.

    You need to know some basic things about you motherboard before you can begin to choose RAM and a video card.

    One recommendation for you. Instead of spending money on upgrading your computer to a HTPC, check out a Tvix Media Player.

    Just do a search and see what you think.
