Does anyone know how to compress a file using xvid asd? I've been downloading some files that are 3 times smaller and have the same quality. Example: A tv show file averages 350mb, these new files have 115mb. How do they do that???
I use XviD to backup my Trailer Park Boys. Each 30-minute episode is ~233MB (3 episodes per CD). Quality is fantastic :^) Also, Star Wars - Sith backed up to one 700MB file... no problem. That equals 5 TPB episodes, so they could've been ~140MB each (but fullscreen 640x480 is so much more demanding than 672x304 widescreen). XviD rocks... L8R

There is only one XviD (plenty of different versions over the years though). asd is probably whoever ripped it or maybe you mean asf? No idea why someone would store XviD in an asf container though.

Xvid asd is a tag from a polish group of recoders They use low-bitrate 2-pass xvid (nothing special about that) and 48kbps 22.1/24khz mp3. Have a look http://www.tvshows.yoyo.pl/index-e.html and here is a guide for asd-style recode http://www.tvshows.yoyo.pl/!kompresja-e.html

What i would like to know is how to play the damn things (Xvid asd), I have XVid and DivX codecs all over the place here, my usual idea is just use VLC. I downloaded Monty Python episodes from that Polish site using bittorrent, and i don't seem to be able to play them, not with WMP, nor Real Player nor VLC! Can someone point me in the direction of the exact codec i require, if any?
From the above links it looks like they are just standard XviD/mp3 avi's. Nothing special other than XviD should be needed and VLC should have no problem playing them back.
No. Have even reinstalled Xvid and tried again: Real Player says the format is not supported, Quicktime says something about bad filename, WMP says the file could not be played, VLC just shifts the fast search pointer along a bit as if playing something, then stops and just does nothing. And yet I'm sure i have other XVid-compressed files, and every other video on my hard drive plays absolutely fine at the very least with VLC, if not all players. HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPP
Hello there. On my mac the same happens, VLC can't do it, installed Mplayer, same shit. What gives with this xdvi ASD??

Hi, just joined up 2 AfterDawn after reading this thread. Am having problems with Xvid asd, as well as Xvid-FoV. I have no problem playing the files in VLC media player but cannot convert them using AVS video tools. First it says "Xvidcore.dll not found". When I press ok the following error comes up; HRCHECK: "(this>Readvideo((LPSAFEARRAY*)8pvideo))Error:80040304(-2147220732)@progra~1\borland\cbuild~1\Imports\AVSVideoFileLib_TLB.h/353 Press [Y]es to terminate, [N]o to continue and [C]ancel to Debug" If press [Y] - Same error again [N] - "The file does not contain audio track. AVS cannot convert such a file" [C] - "External exception 80000003" What do I need to convert the files? I know there is no problem with sound. The audio format for all files is Cyberlink MPEG 1 Layer-3 Sorry for long post. Help will be greatly appreciated. (Plus has any got feedback on AVS, is there better software?)
dunno if its what you're looking for, but files i have trouble converting i run thru the decompressor in avi2vcd. i generally find this sorts them out to run thru other converting progs. as i said though, dunno if its what you're after ;o)
Try Xilisoft Video converter, I use that one to convert to MP4 and it works just fine. If not then get Codec sniper and see if some of ur codecs are dammaged, you can also use Gspot to determine if the file is corupt or if it is using a codec you dont have installed. You can find the progs by searching on Google. Regards Jan Now I just need a prog to convert to XVID - anyone knows one? Yeah, I would like to have a look at the guide as well to see how they get such good quality XviD in such a small size. If anyone has it, please share it.
Good news: I have a copy of the original xvid asd guide for using their technique to get relative small video sizes (~125 MB for 50 min. videos) Bad news: It's in Polish. If anyone can use it and/or translate it, I'll be glad to post it.
