Hey. I've used XviD before and don't recall this problem I'm having being this bad. I am attempting to encode uncompressed 640x480 clips with XviD, but ANY settings i've tried, which i've followed in guides or elsewhere, (some at doom9, other sites, and even friends who managed to get nice quality with settings that don't work for me) produce very ugly, blocky, noisy/blurry results. I don't know what I've been doing wrong, I've tried at least 4 different versions now..both the latest RCs of 1.0, the older XviD_Installer and one dated: "XviD-04102002-1.exe". I've even followed picture guides on 2passing, following examples picture by picture(though sometimes the arrangement of settings is not the same in the version they use). The picture appears blocky, especially when paused, but still noticeable while moving, with a noisy looking fuzz surrounding edges that should be sharp. I've seen what the settings in guides I've been following should produce and this is a far cry from them I'm using Virtual Dub and the following version of XviD: XviD-04102002-1.exe at the moment. I put it on after uninstalling any other codecs and programs that may have changed settings with them, restarting and then reinstalling before trying the encode again. If anyone has any clue what could be causing this any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Well, I aimed for 25 mb per minute..and the clip was 15 seconds,i only used it as a quality test for the final thing..so i put in like 6250 (15 sec = 1/4 min = 6.25mb) and it turned out pretty bad like i described above..anyhow...I think I may have since fixed the problem by installing a different XviD(uManiac's version). I don't understand why the other ones didn't work for me like I did for others when I used the same settings, but meh..I guess it's pretty good now.
