Why, when I try to convert my XVID movie to MPEG the file size blows up to like 5 times the size of the original movie. It use to just be twice the size.
Well, to begin, MPEG2 compression is much larger then DivX anyway. As to why your files are coming out larger then before, how are you converting your DivX file and what settings are you using? You can specify the output file size of the MPEG file by using a constant bitrate or by selecting one or two pass variable bitrate, you should be able to retain most of the quality from the DivX file except it will take much longer to convert and you will probably end up with a bigger file size. But overall, I'd say it is probably due to the bitrate its getting encoded to.
