xvid files...very strange happenings

    i posted here that xvid files dwon't play on my pc, so i thoughti'd convert them to mpeg2, when i'm about to convert with tmpg or just burn the file with nve they both give me a popup window stating the program encountered an error and will be shut down!!!....this is only with the xvid files and nothing else....are these files corrupt or is it my pc?
